Intro

High school is over. The journey seems to be just beginning.
The bridge you cross during college is full of awkward transitions. You don’t feel like a teenager anymore. In fact, you’d prefer to be treated as an adult. While you are committed to family and friends, you sense the urgency to strike out on an adventure of your own. You seek true independence, yet most likely you are financially dependent on others. You’re not in a holding pattern exactly, but you are definitely in limbo.
You’re a Generation Y preadult embarking on the adventure known as college.
There is much to learn about becoming a freshman in college, but consider that you are actually becoming a freshman in life. No matter what people say, this adventure isn’t easy for anyone – some are just better at faking it!
You have a lot of personal strengths. High school was a time when you felt nearly invincible.
You may feel that same confidence as you look forward to independence without accountability. In many ways, you will sense you were unprepared. You – have weaknesses? Yes, you will find you weren’t invincible after all. Know what? You won’t be alone.
Life is about balance.
How will you handle the independence about to be granted as you move away for college? Are you spontaneous, or do you plan? Are you frivolous or frugal? Are you a spender or a saver? It’s not too early to consider both the way you see yourself now and how you view yourself in the future. The future starts now. College Roadmap will be your guide, providing empowerment as you pursue this phase of life. Inside these pages are practical tips on becoming the independent and mature adult you want to see reflected when you look in the rearview mirror.
Though the trip will be a lot of fun, there will be many twists and turns as you deal with dorm life, do laundry, study, date, maximize your time, strategize spending and solidify your faith.
College Roadmap will relieve much of the stress associated with your journey.
Independence and maturity are difficult destinations to find on the roadmap of life. That’s because it isn’t just about academics. It’s about the journey.
